Tuesday, July 7, 2020, Stop Organization in coordination with the NGO department and supported by IGPA project held a conference in Erbil as part of the project activation of NGO law in Kurdistan region.
The conference was attended by Rupak Ahmed MP from the Civil Society Committee, Shwan Mehemed Deputy Director of the NGO Department, Representatives from Erbil organizations, law experts, university lecturers as well as civilian organizations from Sulamani, Duhok, Halabja who participated via online video conference.
The aim of the conference was to have a discussion on the report of comments and notes to civil society organizations that were collected and prepared by STOP from previous open panels in Erbil, Sulaimanya, Duhok and Halabja. The event was about obstacles and challenges in front of the work of civil society organizations and official institutions’ commitment to NGO law number 1 from 2011 including improving the role of civilian organizations in the process of monitoring and follow-up in the Kurdistan region.
It is worth mentioning that at the conference a committee was established with membership of the committee for culture and civil society in parliament, NGO department, representatives from civil society organizations in all provinces of KRI to finalize the collection and organization of participating organizations’ notes, proposals and recommendations in a report so it serves to improve the feasibility of NGO law, the report to be delivered to affected parties.
